About Saraii

The roadside rest-house, reborn for modern India.

Our story

An old idea, made new

For centuries a sarai was the walled rest-house on India's trade routes — a safe place to stop, sleep and move on. We're bringing that back: a clean, fairly-priced pod you can book and unlock from your phone, anywhere on the highway. Rest. Reset. Roll on.

Inside a Saraii pod
The name

What does “Saraii” mean?

Saraii comes from sarai (सराय) — the roadside rest-house of India's ancient trade and pilgrimage routes. A sarai was a safe, walled courtyard where travellers, traders and their animals could stop for the night before carrying on. Built every few kos along the Grand Trunk Road and beyond, sarais gave shelter, water and security to anyone on the move.

We took that 600-year-old idea — a dependable place to rest on a long journey — and rebuilt it for the modern highway: clean, safe pods you book and unlock from your phone. The doubled i simply makes the name our own.
